PVR Cinemas bags rights to screen ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches

PVR will be screening live T20 World Cup Matches in 35 cities across 75 cinemas.

PVR Cinemas, the multiplex chain have secured the rights of live screening the matches during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 on Friday. The cinema chain is all set to screen matches played by India which also includes the semi-finals and the finals of the tournament.

PVR will be screening these matches across 75+ cinemas in 35+ cities, including the likes of New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Gautam Dutta, CEO of PVR Ltd, was extremely delighted about the association with ICC as they believe cricket and movies complement each other in the country.

“The big screen offers a unique opportunity to maximise the coverage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket and movies complement each other as in India they are considered as two religions that unite the country. Movie watching and cricket watching is a shared entertainment experience and when it magnified on the big screen leads to an adrenaline rush from fans quite similar to a stadium.” said, Dutta.

Cinemas were hit hard due to the coronavirus pandemic which led to the closure of the theatres for many months. Though, the cinemas are now allowed to open with limited capacity and strict SOP’s to follow. Only Telangana, Rajasthan and Karnataka are the states where the theatres can operate at 100 per cent capacity.

The association of PVR with the ICC to telecast matches on the big screen will gradually resume the movie-going experience in a bid to bring back the audiences to the cinema halls. Indian cricket will kick start its ICC T20 World Cup campaign under the leadership of Virat Kohli against Pakistan on October 24.
