Premier League extends media rights with Malaysian broadcaster Astro

Across the years, the PL has developed a sizable following in Malaysia as one of the most well-known sports competitions in the globe.

The English top flight league, the Premier League (PL), has renewed its media rights deal with the Malaysian broadcaster, Astro, to maintain its relationship with its supporters.

To be precise, the media firm has extended its exclusive media rights to the PL and the Emirates FA Cup for the seasons 2025-26 to 2027-28.

Astro will air all 380 PL games in HD and select matches in 4K UHD, as well as all FA Cup ties each year. Matches will be broadcast on television and streamed live online.

Paul Molnar, Chief Media Officer, Premier League, said, “We are delighted to renew our partnership with Astro, one of our longest-standing partners in Asia, for the next three seasons. Astro has been instrumental in bringing the Premier League to Malaysian fans for more than a decade, showcasing the competition with consistency, quality, and passion. This renewal reflects our shared commitment to providing world-class football entertainment to supporters across Malaysia. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with Astro to deliver the best possible experience for Premier League fans in the region.”

Throughout the years, the PL has developed a sizable following in Malaysia as one of the most well-known sports competitions in the globe. During the 2021–2022 season, 386 million people in Southeast Asia tuned in to the Premier League, with Malaysia being one of the most important markets.

Furthermore, particularly popular clubs throughout the nation are Manchester United and Liverpool FC. The two clubs have a history of engaging with Malaysian audiences. Man United first visited the nation in 2009 while on a tour of Indonesia and has subsequently secured regional commercial agreements, including a recent one with Malaysia Airlines.

The PL is also well aware of the importance of these areas, which is why it has made deals with businesses such as Astro. The renewal of PL rights preserves Astro’s extensive sports programming library, which comprises Liga Malaysia and Formula 1, among other sports.

Euan Smith, Group CEO, Astro, said, “We are thrilled to extend our partnership for the Premier League and the Emirates FA Cup for three more seasons after the current campaign. This renewal demonstrates our commitment to continue delivering the very best of sports to Malaysians. The Premier League is a cornerstone of our sports programming, and we look forward to bringing fans closer to the action through our extensive coverage, innovative shows and engaging experiences.”
