Premier League extends BBC and talkSPORT radio broadcast deal through 2029

Under this new four-season deal, the BBC and talkSPORT will broadcast 320 matches per season.

The Premier League has officially announced the continuation of its partnership with BBC Radio and talkSPORT, securing live radio commentary for all matches through the 2028-29 season.

This extension ensures that fans across the UK can enjoy live coverage of their favourite teams and matches on both public and commercial radio platforms.

Under this new four-season deal, the BBC and talkSPORT will broadcast 320 matches per season. The BBC will cover approximately 209 games each year on its BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Sports Extra channels, with the remaining 111 games airing on talkSPORT. Both broadcasters have a longstanding association with the English top flight, having first partnered with the league in 1992.

Premier League Chief Media Officer Paul Molnar expressed enthusiasm about the renewal and said, “We are delighted to continue our long-term partnerships with the BBC and talkSPORT, who have both consistently delivered outstanding live Premier League football across a broad range of platforms. Their engaging live commentary and wider programming is an important service for Premier League fans across the UK, and we look forward to working with both organisations over the next four seasons.”

For the next four years, 5 Live will bring football fans the biggest games across the weekend, with all the drama and excitement from the world’s greatest football league.”

News UK EVP, President of Broadcasting, Scott Taunton, continued, “Today we continue our partnership as the Premier League’s only national commercial radio partner bringing all the action across weeknights, including Monday night football, as well as kicking off the weekend with the exclusive Saturday lunchtime game. talkSPORT retains its position as the home of football, with more live games than any other radio broadcaster.

“Our peerless presenting and commentary teams across talkSPORT and talkSPORT2 provide best-in-class live coverage to millions of football fans throughout the UK for the Premier League, as well as games across all major football tournaments.”

Earlier this year, talkSPORT and BBC Radio also secured an extended rights deal with the English Football League, further solidifying their positions as leading broadcasters of UK football.

With this latest agreement, both broadcasters reaffirm their commitment to providing millions of football fans with high-quality, accessible coverage of England’s top-flight matches, reinforcing their role as trusted voices in sports media. This renewal underscores the Premier League’s dedication to bringing fans closer to the game, ensuring that live match commentary remains a staple of UK radio.
