The global tyre manufacturer, Pirelli, has announced a multi-year partnership with the Australian Open (AO), marking its entry into Grand Slam tennis sponsorship.

The partnership aims to elevate Pirelli’s global brand visibility, particularly in the Australian market, known for its discerning car enthusiasts. By aligning with the Australian Open’s renowned prestige and focus on high performance, Pirelli seeks to further solidify its association with excellence and innovation.

Andrea Casaluci, CEO of Pirelli, expressed his enthusiasm for the alliance and said, “For Pirelli, the Australian Open represents a very important opportunity for visibility because of the great interest in tennis at the global level. In particular, the sponsorship will help increase awareness of our brand in Australia which is a market with a high concentration of prestige cars. Precisely in Melbourne, home of the tournament, in 2019 we opened a Pirelli P Zero World, our flagship store model currently present in only four other cities in the world”.

Pirelli is a global leader in the production and sale of tyres for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. The company also manufactures a wide range of industrial rubber products.

The partnership with the AO marks a return to tennis for Pirelli. The company initially produced tennis balls from 1930 until the 1970s. This history underscores Pirelli’s long-standing commitment to sports, evident in its involvement in various disciplines, including football, sailing, and skiing. In motorsport, Pirelli has been a dominant force since 1907, currently participating in over 350 competitions worldwide, including the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1.

The Australian Open is one of the four prestigious Grand Slam tennis tournaments held annually. Played on hard courts at Melbourne Park, it attracts millions of spectators worldwide. Pirelli joins a distinguished list of Australian Open partners, including Marriott Bonvoy, Haier, Grey Goose and Emirates.

The Australian Open kicks off this weekend on January 12, marking the start of the 2025 Grand Slam season. With every player eager to make their mark after the off-season, the tournament promises intense competition and exciting upsets as players vie for valuable ranking points.

On the men’s side, defending champion Jannik Sinner leads the charge, followed by Alexander Zverev aiming for his first Grand Slam title. Carlos Alcaraz, seeking to complete a career Grand Slam at the young age of 20, will be a force to be reckoned with. American star Taylor Fritz rounds out the top four.

In the women’s draw, reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka will be a formidable opponent, particularly well-suited to the fast courts of Melbourne Park. Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff remain strong contenders, while Jasmine Paolini’s breakout season earns her a well-deserved top-four seeding.
