Odisha set to be home of the biggest hockey stadium in India

The vibes of the upcoming prestigious Federation of Hockey (FIH) Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup India 2023 has started rejuvenating as the Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, announced the creation of a new world-class Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. The stadium would be the biggest stadium for Hockey in India with a seating capacity of 20,000 spectators.

Encompassing over 15 acres of land, the stadium is set to be erected in Biju Patnaik University of Technology campus, Rourkela. With the vision to make the state of the art facilities, the stadium aims to change the complexion of the sporting landscape. Its infrastructure intends to set a benchmark for other Hockey stadiums around the world.

The Chief Minister of Odisha made the mega announcement of Odisha hosting Men’s Hockey World Cup India 2023 through a video message. The prestigious tournament will be held Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

Patnaik feels that Sundargarh district of Odisha deserves recognition since it has been home for reputed players that represented India on the International front. Reputed players such as Dilip Tirkey and Sunita Lakra, who have brought laurels to India, have risen from this district.

The aim is to offer a unique experience of hockey in the district. In order to achieve this aim, construction of synthetic hockey turf in each of the 17 blocks of Sundargarh district has already commenced.
