Northamptonshire signs Mohammad Nabi for T20 Blast 2021

The English County side Northamptonshire have signed Afghanistan’s all-rounder, Mohammad Nabi for the 2021 season of the T20 Blast. The all-rounder will fill the second foreign slot after they clinched the signing Irish cricketer Paul Stirling.

As per ICC’s latest MRF T20I ratings, Mohammad Nabi stands tall at the number one spot of the all-rounders. Northamptonshire would be Nabi’s third spell in England after previously playing for Kent and Leicestershire. His tenure at Northamptonshire is subjected to clearance from the Afghanistan Cricket Board.

If the board approves, the World’s number one all-rounder would be available for the entire group-round stage and the business end of the Vitality T20 Blash before he joins his franchise, London Spirit for the inaugural season of The Hundred.

The Afghanistan cricketer is regarded as the specialist of the shortest format after playing over 270 T20 matches. In his ten-year-long T20 career, Nabi has scored 4118 runs at a strike-rate of 142 with 267 wickets to his name at an economy rate under seven. Nabi has played for 29 different teams all around the world in his 13-year-long cricketing career and Northamptonshire would be the cricketer’s thirtieth association.

David Ripley, Northants’ Director of Cricket is delighted with the all-rounder’s association as he said, “We’re delighted to welcome such a high-profile T20 player as Mohammad Nabi to the club. He has a wealth of experience from playing in so many global tournaments around the world and can completely turn a game with both bat and ball.”

Mohammad Nabi is delighted with the news as well and said, “I’ve always enjoyed playing the Vitality Blast in England and it will be exciting to play at Northamptonshire. I am really hopeful that we would do well.”
