NHL extends media rights deal with Yandex in Russia

Sports enthusiasts can catch the exclusive action on Kinopoisk apps for Android TV and Smart TV.

North America’s popular sports federation, National Hockey League (NHL), has signed a partnership extension with Yandex. In this renewal, Yandex will continue to broadcast the NHL events in Russia by its subsidiary network Kinopoisk. This is a multi-year deal that would culminate after the 2023-24 season of the hockey tournament and would include all regular-season games and Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Sports enthusiasts can catch the exclusive action on Kinopoisk apps for Android TV and Smart TV, while also getting gaining unique broadcasting benefits from Yandex’s inaugural, 24/7 NHL Channel. Through this channel, the media giant will broadcast thrilling games, interesting interviews, original content and studio shows of the elite professional ice hockey tournament in the world.

Yulia Mishkuts, the head of the special projects group at Yandex Media Services commented on this renewal and said, “There are many sports fans among the subscribers of Plus, and hockey is no exception. Over the several years of our partnership with the NHL, we have noticed an increase in interest in this championship in Russia. We are glad that fans can watch the next seasons of the league where they are already used to.”

Jaka Lednik, the NHL Senior Vice President of International also spoke on this extended association and said, “We are excited to continue our relationship with Yandex and expand the showcase of our great game in Russia with the ‘NHL Channel.”

Yandex is a major Russian local media firm that offers 70 internet-related products and other significant facilities such as navigation, transportation etc.
