The National Hockey League (NHL) has renewed its multi-year partnership with technology services company Presidio, extending the firm’s role as the league’s official technology innovation partner across North America as the two organisations continue to modernise the NHL’s digital infrastructure and operational capabilities.
The renewal builds on a partnership first established in 2023 and underscores the NHL’s continued investment in technology to enhance league operations, officiating, broadcasting and fan engagement. Under the extended agreement, Presidio will continue to deliver cloud, cybersecurity, data, and managed technology solutions that support the league’s business and hockey operations across more than 1,300 regular-season and playoff games annually.
A key pillar of the collaboration remains the NHL Draft Application, a secure digital platform developed by Presidio to streamline player selection and communication during the NHL Draft. The application connects the NHL’s Hockey Operations, Central Registry, Central Scouting, Communications department and all 32 clubs, enabling real-time collaboration while supporting the league’s transition to a decentralised Draft format.
The partnership has also delivered several technology-driven innovations beyond the Draft. Presidio developed the NHL’s cloud-based Virtual Technology Operations Centre (VTOC), which enhances broadcast operations and centralises production workflows, while its NHL Watch Comms App, created in collaboration with Apple, enables officials to receive haptic notifications on Apple Watch devices, improving in-game communication and operational efficiency.
Bob Cagnazzi, Chief Executive Officer, Presidio, said, “In just three years, Presidio and the NHL have turned a shared vision for technology innovation into three major solutions that support some of the League’s most critical operations: the NHL Draft Application, the Virtual Technology Operations Centre, and the NHL Watch Comms App. This renewal is a reflection of the trust we’ve built together and the opportunity ahead to continue modernising the technology foundation that supports the League, Officials, broadcasters, and fans.”
Peter DelGiacco, NHL Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, added, “Presidio is a core partner in the NHL’s technology transformation, helping us modernise our infrastructure, advance our AI capabilities, and deliver smarter experiences for our teams and fans. We’re building something genuinely differentiated here, and this extended partnership reflects the confidence we have in what we’re creating together.”
The renewed agreement reflects the growing strategic importance of enterprise technology partnerships across professional sports, with leagues increasingly investing in cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, real-time communications and digital operations to improve competitive performance, broadcast delivery and the overall fan experience.
