The National Football League (NFL), the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), and the blockchain game developer Mythical Games signed a collaboration to debut NFL Rivals, a new NFL video game based on blockchain, here on Mythical Platform in early 2023.
The videogame will enable NFL fans and gamers to start competing against other general managers with their collected player lineups and franchises, constructing, levelling up, and strengthening their roster.
Furthermore, through all this play-and-own gameplay experience, fans will be allowed to own, acquire, and start trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of their favourite players.
Joe Ruggiero, Senior Vice President of consumer products at the NFL, said, “With the rise of blockchain technology, we are thrilled to partner with Mythical Games on a blockchain-enabled game that delivers new play-to-own NFT capabilities, creating a new adventure for fans who love to play football games.
“The interest in NFTs and video gaming amongst current and prospective fans continues to grow and combined have accelerated the NFL’s exploration of new gaming models that can deliver an unmatched experience to fans.”
Jamie Jackson, Chief Creative Officer at Mythical Games, said, “Partnering with the NFL to drive new fan and player engagement through fresh game design and the benefits of Web3 is an exciting moment for us.
“NFTs with utility can add value to players in-game, and we can’t wait to bring these concepts to NFL Rivals to evolve the team management genre by adding the advantages of play-and-own games, offering the community new ways to engage with their favorite teams and players both in and outside this virtual world.”
In early 2023, NFL Rivals will be available on the web and on mobile devices all across the world. Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Marvel Strike Force, and Skylanders are just a few of the prominent properties that Mythical’s creators have worked on.
32 limited-quantity sets of distinct dynamic 3D NFL franchise-themed NFTs will also be delivered in a series of drops named “Rarity League” ahead of the launch of the NFL Rivals game. Special features, in-game prizes, as well as other features will be available to holders of this fully licensed collection.
