New Zealand vs Bangladesh: BCB signs short term sponsorship deals with Evaly and efood

Bangladesh Cricket Board has signed a sponsorship deal with the country’s top e-commerce company Evaly for upcoming tour of New Zealand. At the same time, efood, a subsidiary of the e-commerce company, has sponsored the kit of the Bangladesh team. The cricket board announced both deals through a press release on February 22.

The announcement came following a press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Media Center. BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury participated at the occasion as a chief guest and expressed his delight to get new sponsors. He further confirmed the deal’s worth at BDT 20,000,000 (approx. $236,000).

In the difficult financial climate during the pandemic, BCB has decided to choose sponsors and broadcasting rights partners series-by-series as it is getting difficult to get long-term sponsors on-board. Earlier in January, BCB had Beximco Pharma as sponsor and Akash DTH as the kit sponsor for the home series against West Indies.

Evaly has earlier worked with BCB as the e-commerce company was one of the sponsors in the board’s own T20 franchise league Bangladesh Premier League. Mohammad Rassel’s managing director of Evaly said, “Evaly has been involved in cricket since the beginning. Today, technology-based companies usually sponsor other teams, so as a tech-based company it was our dream to sponsor our cricket team.”

Bangladesh is scheduled to tour New Zealand in March and April for two limited-overs series that will consist of three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals, with the first ODI on March 20 and last T20I on April 1. The tour is predicted to be a hard challenge for the visitors as they have never beaten the Kiwis on their patch.
