Football’s commercial landscape is becoming increasingly diverse, with recent partnerships across insurance, energy infrastructure, betting and financial trading highlighting how clubs and leagues are expanding beyond traditional consumer-facing sponsorships.

Agreements involving WTW and WSL Football, Aurora Utilities and Crystal Palace, BetTOM and Burnley, and VARIANSE and Southampton demonstrate how sports properties are increasingly being used for more than brand visibility. The partnerships provide sponsors with opportunities around business development, hospitality, digital content, international expansion and targeted stakeholder engagement.

WTW has signed a multi-year partnership with WSL Football to become the official insurance partner of the Barclays Women’s Super League and WSL2. The company will work with WSL Football and clubs across both divisions to explore insurance and risk-management solutions specifically designed for the women’s professional game.

A key focus will be the development of a specialist insurance solution for female footballers, positioning WTW within the wider infrastructure of a rapidly professionalising sport.

Zarah Al-Kudcy, Chief Revenue Officer, WSL Football, said, “Ensuring we have the right protection and support in place for players during their careers and for clubs is an important part of building a truly professional and sustainable game. Bringing on WTW as a new partner with specialist expertise, whose people-first approach aligns with our values, means that together we can explore new ways to address the specific needs of women footballers and help create a stronger future for players, clubs and the wider game. Like all our WSL Football partnerships, it is more than investment into the league; it is investment into the whole women’s football ecosystem and ensures that the infrastructure around the game continues to develop alongside it.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have appointed Aurora Utilities as their official grid connection partner in a new multi-year agreement. Aurora, an Independent Distribution Network Operator, specialises in electricity infrastructure and grid connections, with activities spanning renewable energy, electric vehicle charging, battery storage, data centres and residential and commercial developments.

The partnership will provide Aurora with branding opportunities at Selhurst Park, including LED exposure, as well as hospitality and access to events at the stadium. The agreement is particularly significant as a B2B sponsorship, with Aurora able to use Crystal Palace’s matchdays and events to engage clients, partners and other business stakeholders.

Robin Campbell, Head of Sponsorship at Crystal Palace, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Aurora Utilities to Crystal Palace. They are an ambitious business operating in an increasingly important part of the UK’s infrastructure. This partnership is about much more than brand visibility. Selhurst Park provides a fantastic setting for Aurora to bring together clients, partners and stakeholders, both on matchdays and through events across the year. We’re looking forward to working closely with Aurora and building a successful partnership over the coming seasons.”

At Burnley, BetTOM has become the club’s official betting partner for the 2026-27 season. Its branding will appear on the back of the playing shorts worn by the men’s and women’s first teams, alongside visibility across Turf Moor, including the dugouts, technical areas and LED inventory.

The partnership will also include supporter competitions, prizes, giveaways and community initiatives, supported by safer-gambling messaging aimed at adult supporters. For BetTOM, which launched in the UK in May 2025, the agreement provides a high-profile platform to build awareness in the competitive betting market.

Burnley FC’s Senior Commercial Manager Alister Burn said, “We are pleased to welcome BetTOM to Burnley Football Club as our Official Betting Partner for the 2026/27 season. Their branding will feature on the back of our men’s and women’s playing shorts, as well as within the technical area at Turf Moor, providing a strong platform to build their awareness across the UK. We look forward to working with Paul, Charlie and the wider betTOM team to engage with our adult supporters through community initiatives, supporter competitions, prizes, and giveaways, alongside clear safer gambling messaging throughout the season.”

Southampton have meanwhile entered the financial trading category through a multi-year partnership with VARIANSE. The company has become the club’s official global trading partner and exclusive official CFD trading partner. VARIANSE will receive international branding rights, access to Southampton FC intellectual property and stadium visibility, while digital activation will include original content featuring the club’s men’s first-team players.

Greg Baker, Chief Revenue Officer of Southampton FC, said, “We are delighted to welcome VARIANSE to Southampton Football Club as our Official Global Trading Partner. The partnership reflects Southampton FC’s long-standing commitment to working with ambitious, high-growth brands that share the Club’s values of authenticity, innovation, community engagement and a strong focus on their clients and supporters. Through the collaboration, Southampton FC will work closely with VARIANSE to deliver engaging digital campaigns and original content for the Saints’ global fanbase and wider Hampshire community, providing greater exposure to the fast-moving and increasingly technology-driven world of online trading and investment.”

Taken together, the four partnerships underline a broader shift in football sponsorship. Rights holders are increasingly creating specialised commercial categories, while sponsors are seeking assets that provide access to customers, corporate stakeholders, hospitality, content and international markets.

The financial terms of all four agreements were undisclosed. However, the deals demonstrate that football’s commercial value is increasingly extending beyond logo exposure, with business integration, targeted engagement and strategic market positioning becoming central to modern sports partnerships.
