Indian basketball enthusiasts are set for a slam dunk in their viewing experience as Amazon Prime Video has announced the upcoming launch of “NBA on Prime.”
Kicking off in October 2025, this initiative is part of a landmark 11-year global media rights agreement with the National Basketball Association (NBA), bringing a significant slate of live basketball to Prime members in India at no additional cost to their existing subscriptions.
Prime Video is poised to become a premier destination for NBA fans in the country. Starting with the 2025-26 season, the platform will stream an impressive 67 regular-season NBA games annually. The coverage will also feature crucial moments across the NBA calendar, including all seven Knockout Round games of the Emirates NBA Cup (the in-season tournament) and every game from the SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament. Furthermore, subscribers will enjoy access to select first and second-round NBA Playoff games. Notably, Prime Video will also be the exclusive home for the NBA Conference Finals in six of the eleven years covered by the deal.
The commitment to elite basketball doesn’t stop with the NBA. Beginning in 2026, Prime Video will exclusively broadcast 30 regular-season Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) games each season. This includes the prestigious Championship game of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase. WNBA postseason coverage on the platform will feature one first-round series annually, seven Semi-Final series, and three WNBA Finals throughout the 11-year agreement.
To elevate the broadcast of “NBA on Prime”, Prime Video is assembling a star-studded studio team. Esteemed sports journalist Taylor Rooks will host a new NBA studio show. She’ll be joined by a legendary panel of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall-of-Famers and NBA icons, including Steve Nash, Dwyane Wade, Blake Griffin, Dirk Nowitzki, and Udonis Haslem, all set to provide expert analysis. WNBA superstar Candace Parker will also join as an in-game and studio analyst for NBA coverage starting in Fall 2025, and will spearhead Prime Video’s WNBA coverage from 2026.
Beyond the directly streamed games, Prime Video will also act as a strategic partner and a global third-party channel store for NBA League Pass. This will offer dedicated fans the option to subscribe to the NBA’s comprehensive live and on-demand game service for an additional fee, significantly broadening access to league-wide content.
The recent unveiling of the official “NBA on Prime” logo signals the approaching tip-off for this expansive sports offering. This initiative significantly bolsters Prime Video’s live sports portfolio in India, which already includes New Zealand Cricket matches. It promises to revolutionise how basketball is consumed in the nation by providing extensive and easily accessible coverage of the world’s top basketball leagues. This long-term partnership underscores a transformative moment for basketball’s reach and popularity across India.
