MS Dhoni raises anemia awareness in Emcure Pharmaceuticals’ new advertisement

Emcure's advertisement starring MS Dhoni teaches men about the symptoms of anemia and the need for early detection and treatment.

Emcure Pharmaceuticals, one of India’s premier pharmaceutical companies, has unveiled a nationwide campaign to increase awareness of anemia among Indian men, featuring the Indian cricket team legend, MS Dhoni.

The initiative, which was launched on International Men’s Day, aims to raise awareness of the increased prevalence of anemia in males and encourage early diagnosis and treatment.

The National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5) reports frightening anemia rates, with 31% of adolescent boys and 25% of men suffering. Anaemia is on the rise, notably among teenage males (15-19 years) in 23 states and men (15-49 years) in 17 states, representing a major public health challenge.

In the past, Emcure has concentrated its awareness efforts on female anemia too. However, with rising rates among men, the company is expanding its reach to address this vital issue in the male community.

Anemia, which often goes unreported in health statistics, can cause decreased productivity, poor performance, and an increased risk of acquiring serious disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Despite these concerns, male anemia frequently goes unnoticed.

In order to tackle this, Emcure has established a dedicated website, anemiafreeindia.com, which includes a self-test for iron deficient anaemia. MS Dhoni’s advertisement teaches men and teenagers about the symptoms of anemia and the need for early detection and treatment.

Dr. Anupam Sachdeva, Director of Pediatric Hematology at Sri Ganga Ram Hospital, said, “The rising prevalence of anemia among men poses a threat to our economic productivity. Recognizing symptoms like fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and shortness of breath is key to tackling iron deficiency.”

Anil Kothiyal, President of India Business at Emcure, said, “This campaign reinforces our focus on preventive healthcare and tackling anemia, a health issue that often goes unnoticed in men. Through this initiative, Emcure reaffirms its commitment to improving health outcomes and addressing the often-overlooked issue of anemia among men.”
