The former Indian cricket team captain, MS Dhoni, has joined AI-powered English-learning platform SpeakX as a strategic investor and brand ambassador, adding another technology-led consumer business to his expanding commercial portfolio.
The association combines Dhoni’s considerable brand equity with SpeakX’s ambition to make spoken English more accessible through artificial intelligence and personalised learning. While the financial terms of Dhoni’s investment and his equity stake have not been disclosed, the partnership extends beyond a conventional celebrity endorsement, with Dhoni also integrated into the platform’s learner experience.
SpeakX has launched the association with its new digital campaign, “Muh Khol, English Bol”, which addresses the hesitation many Indians experience when speaking English despite having studied the language. Fronted by Dhoni, the campaign uses humour and everyday situations to encourage users to overcome the fear of making mistakes and become more confident in real-life conversations.
Arpit Mittal, CEO & Founder of SpeakX, said, “SpeakX was built around a simple belief: people shouldn’t be held back by their spoken English from participating fully in the lives they are building. Most Indians have studied English for years but often haven’t had the space to practise speaking without the fear of being judged. ‘Muh Khol, English Bol’ brings this idea to life in a simple, relatable and human way, encouraging people to take that first step. MS Dhoni brings his natural confidence and energy to the campaign, and his investment in SpeakX and role as Brand Ambassador is a strong endorsement of both the problem we’re solving and the opportunity ahead.”
MS Dhoni, Brand Ambassador and Investor at SpeakX, added, “Confidence doesn’t come from knowing more; it comes from putting yourself out there, practising and doing it again. I liked how this campaign brings that very real insight to life in a simple and relatable way. SpeakX gives people a space to practise English speaking and build confidence in real-life situations. I’m happy to be part of the journey and encourage learners as they make progress in the app.”
Dhoni’s role will also extend into the SpeakX app, where he will welcome users and recognise and encourage them at key milestones throughout their learning journey. This gives the partnership a product-led dimension, rather than limiting the cricketer’s involvement to advertising and promotional activity.
Founded as Yellow Class before transitioning towards AI-powered English learning, SpeakX has built a platform focused on practical speaking practice and real-life communication. The company says it has reached more than one crore learners, with 10 lakh subscribers added over the past six months. It has also attracted more than $20 million in funding from investors including WestBridge Capital, Elevation Capital, Goodwater Capital and Tidal Capital.
Dhoni’s association with SpeakX comes amid a broader expansion of his role in the Indian consumer and technology ecosystem. His recent commercial activities have included associations with Malabar Gold & Diamonds, SolarSquare, DRiV, CARS24, BHIM, House of Biryani and Swaraj Tractors, while his investment portfolio has expanded into businesses including Kuku, PadelPark India and SuperHealth.
The pattern highlights a shift in Dhoni’s commercial positioning from being solely a high-value celebrity endorser to becoming an increasingly active investor and strategic partner. His combination of long-standing consumer trust, nationwide recognition and growing investment activity gives brands an opportunity to leverage his influence beyond traditional advertising campaigns.
For SpeakX, Dhoni therefore represents more than marketing reach. His investment aligns him financially with the company’s growth, while his ambassadorial role gives the platform a powerful mainstream face as it seeks to scale AI-powered English learning across India and deepen its presence among the country’s expanding consumer and employability markets.
