Former Indian cricket team captain, MS Dhoni, has strengthened his commitment to India’s clean energy transition by investing in residential rooftop solar company SolarSquare and joining the company as its brand ambassador.

The partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar among Indian homeowners, leveraging Dhoni’s trusted public image to promote sustainable energy solutions across the country.

The announcement comes as India’s residential solar market enters a phase of rapid expansion, supported by the Government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which is driving rooftop solar installations through subsidies and financial incentives. With residential consumers accounting for the bulk of new rooftop solar capacity additions in recent quarters, SolarSquare is positioning itself to capitalise on growing demand for affordable and reliable clean energy.

Commenting on the association, MS Dhoni said, “For me, this is much bigger than investing in a company. It’s about investing in India’s future. Energy security and clean energy are priorities that will define India’s next decade, and residential solar has an important role to play. What gave me the confidence to come on board was the founders’ commitment to building for the long term. That’s why I am excited to join the SolarSquare mission as both an investor and brand ambassador.”

Shreya Mishra, Co-founder & CEO, SolarSquare, added, “We are honoured to welcome MS Dhoni as an investor and brand ambassador at SolarSquare. Over two decades, he has held the trust and expectations of a billion Indians, and that is exactly the benchmark of trust we want to build with our customers. He is also someone who cares deeply about India and the climate, and genuinely believes in what we are building at SolarSquare.”

Founded in 2015, SolarSquare provides an end-to-end residential rooftop solar solution, covering consultation, system design, installation, financing, subsidy assistance, remote monitoring and long-term maintenance. The company has installed rooftop solar systems for more than 50,000 homes across 29 cities, making it one of India’s largest residential solar providers.

The partnership follows SolarSquare’s US$53 million Series C funding round, led by B Capital with participation from existing investors including Lightspeed, Elevation Capital, Lowercarbon Capital, Rainmatter and Good Capital. The company plans to deploy the fresh capital towards expanding its geographic footprint, strengthening technology capabilities and scaling customer acquisition as India’s residential solar market continues to grow.

For SolarSquare, Dhoni’s investment and ambassadorial role represent more than a high-profile celebrity endorsement. As one of India’s most trusted public figures, his association is expected to strengthen consumer confidence in rooftop solar adoption, helping the company reach a wider audience at a time when government support and increasing awareness are accelerating the country’s transition towards clean energy. For Dhoni, the partnership further expands his investment portfolio into the sustainability sector, aligning his personal brand with one of India’s fastest-growing industries.
