Movistar, DAZN acquires La Liga broadcast rights

La Liga gathered a total of 4.95 billion euros from the lucrative five-year broadcast rights deal.

The Spanish top-flight, La Liga sold the national market broadcast rights of La Liga Santander in Andorra and Spain between 2022/2023 and 2026/2027.

Movistar will broadcast a total of five matches per match day plus three full match days, while DAZN will inform five matches per matchday. La Liga gathered a total of 4.95 billion euros from the lucrative five-year broadcast rights deal. The total figure has witnessed a rise compared to the previous cycle for similar content.

Between February and March 2022, the La Liga Santander free-to-air match, the hospitality channel and the La Liga SmartBank will be out on tender.

Presently, La Liga has kept its audiovisual revenues steady when most of the major European leagues have experienced reduced valuations in their most recent cycles in which many industry experts were predicting significant decreases.

The bids for a period of five-year have resulted in excellent stability in the medium term and have successfully generated a greater certainty among the bidders to invest in the La Liga content.

Various leading national and international operators showed their interest in bidding for La Liga. Several famous financial institutions carried out the current financial valuation of La Liga.

Adding to the national bid, La Liga has closed the highly competitive international broadcast agreements in the United States, Mexico, and Latin America reasserting the world’s interest in La Liga, guaranteeing economic stability of the high octane tournament.
