MotoGP signs title sponsorship deal with 888

Online gaming and entertainment operators 888 have been announced as the title sponsor for the Portuguese Grand Prix by Dorna Sports, MotoGP’s commercial rights holder. The event at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve will  be renamed as the ‘Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal’. The Grand Prix will take place between April 16-18.

The aforementioned Grand Prix is one of the 21 races scheduled for the ongoing 2021 session of MotoGP. The competition is starting from Friday as it returns to Qatar’s Losail International Circuit after being restricted to European nations as a result of travel protocols being imposed for the containment of Covid-19. Pau Serracanta, Managing Director at Dorna Sports said that the popularity of 888 will help Moto GP.

“We are very happy to welcome 888 as title sponsor for the Portuguese Grand Prix and see the 888 name take top billing at one of the most spectacular tracks on the calendar. 888 is a well-known and respected name in the field and we’re very happy to welcome them back to MotoGP.”

888 holdings are one of the world’s leading online gaming and entertainment operators. Founded in 1997, the company has now grown to enjoy a presence in 60 different countries around the world, including Portugal. Collaborating with a body of such repute will out to be largely beneficial for Moto GP as it would help to enhance its global presence and recognition.

Monica Rangel, Head of PT Markets at 888 Portugal said: “It is a thrilling moment for everyone at 888 while we position ourselves as unequivocal supporters for motorcycle sports globally. In challenging times, we consider this a true sign of confidence for Portugal and a clear statement on its importance in international sports events.

The Doha GP will be followed by Portugal GP, and the tournament will keep its presence in the European continent until October with the commencement of the Japanese Grand Prix.
