MFL inks a new fan engagement partnership with Genius Sports

The MFL's first official fantasy football offering, 'Liga M Fantasy' will be powered by Genius Sports.

The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has signed a new fan engagement and free-to-play agreement with Genius Sports.

The MFL has chosen Genius Sports to deliver a variety of highly engaging sports entertainment services for Malaysian football fans as the official ruling authority of the sport in Malaysia, which includes the Liga Super, Liga Premier, Piala FA, and Piala Malaysia.

The MFL’s first official fantasy football offering, ‘Liga M Fantasy’ (ligamfantasy.com), will be powered by Genius Sports’ advanced technologies. ‘Liga M Fantasy’ is a traditional fantasy football game in which fans bring together a line-up of 11 players with little or no limit on the number of players drafted out of each team, within a set budget. The debut version is designed to allow as many fans as possible to join and become acquainted with Liga M Fantasy 2022, with additional improvements and features to be added in subsequent seasons.

Two additional interactive solutions will be released shortly, including Game Day fantasy, which will allow fans to choose seven players without regard to budget, allowing them to put their understanding of the league’s best players to the test each week. The live fan experience would be further gamified and enhanced by an engaging Live Prediction mechanism that will ask Malaysian football fans to anticipate a broad range of factors during the game, such as the final score, match winner, and overall amount of shots, trying to keep them engrossed until the end of the match.

This arrangement builds on Genius Sports’ and the MFL’s official statistics and transparency collaboration, which was signed in 2021.

Stuart Ramalingam, CEO of the MFL, said, “With the rapid expansion of their business offerings particularly in the field of fan engagement, we are thrilled to grow our partnership with Genius Sports.

“The MFL is excited to finally deliver our very own launch version of Liga M Fantasy that is engaging, interactive, and tests our fans’ incredible knowledge of our competitions. By implementing official new fantasy and predictor games with Genius, we will take vital steps towards achieving these core goals, and continue to offer improved features year on year.”

Mohamed Feizel, Head of Sportstech – APAC, at Genius Sports, stated, “Across official play-by-play data and bespoke free-to-play games, Genius Sports is helping to power the MFL’s entire digital ecosystem. We’re very proud to expand our partnership with one of the most innovative sports leagues in APAC and look forward to further enhancing the experiences they’re delivering to their fans in the years to come.”
