European football’s commercial landscape has undergone a significant transformation in the opening weeks of 2026, as both the English Women’s Super League (WSL) and Spain’s LALIGA confirmed landmark sponsorship agreements with Mercedes-Benz UK and Polish beverage giant OSHEE.
Mercedes-Benz drives into women’s football with multi-year deal
In a move that further cements the commercial ascent of the women’s professional game, Mercedes-Benz UK has been named the official automotive partner of WSL Football. The exclusive multi-year agreement covers both the top-flight Barclays Women’s Super League and the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 (WSL2).
A centrepiece of the agreement is the brand’s role as presenting partner for the WSL’s first-ever high-stakes promotion/relegation play-off match. Under a new league structure designed for expansion, the third-placed team in WSL2 will face the bottom-placed team in the WSL at the end of the 2025–26 season to determine the final spot for the expanded 14-team 2026–27 campaign.
The deal follows a broader global strategy for the German automaker, which recently secured premier partnerships with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and golf’s Women’s Open.
OSHEE scales up LALIGA partnership across 43 European markets
Meanwhile, in Spain, the Primera División has announced a massive expansion of its relationship with OSHEE. The Polish functional beverage brand, which first partnered with the league in 2023 for the Polish market, has now been elevated to an official partner covering 43 European markets.
As part of the partnership across the covered markets, OSHEE isotonic drinks will be introduced, featuring dedicated labels inspired by the world of LALIGA. The labels will showcase images of some of the league’s most recognisable players, including Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Robert Lewandowski, Julián Álvarez, Nico Williams, Mikel Oyarzabal, Georges Mikautadze, and Antony.
The marketing campaign will be heavily anchored around El Clásico, leveraging the global rivalry to promote hydration and active lifestyles through TV, digital, and in-person fan engagement.
A new era of commercial integration
These dual announcements underscore a shifting landscape in sports marketing, where regional partnerships are increasingly being traded for expansive, pan-European or multi-tier collaborations. By aligning with both established powerhouses like LALIGA and high-growth properties like the WSL, brands like OSHEE and Mercedes-Benz are moving beyond traditional “logo-on-a-board” sponsorship.
Instead, they are integrating themselves into the competitive fabric of the sport, whether through supporting the technical evolution of league promotion or by becoming a staple of the fan’s physical experience on match day. As the 2025–26 season enters its crucial second half, these partnerships signal that the commercial value of European football remains at an all-time high, driven by innovative structures and a truly global reach.
