Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 to recommence

Presently Oman sits on top of the standings with 16 points after 10 matches.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today declared the recommencement of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 sponsored by Dream 11 for the first time since February 2020, with two series arranged for next month.

Both series will be held in Oman, the first involving Nepal and the USA for six ODIs, which will take place between 13 and 20 September. The second will see Oman host PNG and Scotland between 25 September and 2 October. All teams will play four fixtures each during each series with a maximum of eight points available as a qualification to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 restarts for League 2.

Oman currently claims the top spot with 16 points after 10 matches at the moment, trailed by the United States in second place with 12 points from 12 matches after the cricket competition was paused due to COVID-19.

Following the 21 tri-series concludes, the top three teams will secure their spot in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023. The bottom four teams will fall into the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Off 2023 – which is a repechage event to the Global Qualifier. The bottommost teams will be linked by the winner of Challenge League A and B. The top two teams from the Play-Off will keep their hopes alive of competition in India 2023, by qualifying for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.
