Media rights auction for Women’s IPL to be held on January 16

The upcoming auction is bound to witness an exciting bidding war as the likes of Viacom18 and Sony-Zee have issued their bids.

The auction for the media rights of the much-awaited Women’s IPL will be conducted on January 16 instead of January 12, which was reported earlier.

The Board of Control by Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled ITT for media rights of WIPL in December 2022. The upcoming auction is bound to witness an exciting bidding war as the likes of Viacom18 and Sony-Zee have issued their bids on the said date, according to reports. The media rights auction is likely to be a closed process with the highest bidder acquiring the rights.

A release by the BCCI stated, “Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing this ITT does not entitle any person to bid. The BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner at its discretion.”

The inaugural edition of the WIPL might take place between March 6-23, 2023. Earlier this month, the BCCI also released an ITT for the ownership of WIPL teams.
