The Spanish football governing council, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced a sponsorship agreement with the leading insurance company, MAPFRE.
With this, the brand has become the first-ever title sponsor of the men’s Copa del Rey knockout cup competition and the final of the women’s Copa de la Reina.
MAPFRE is an extensive worldwide insurance firm headquartered in Spain. It is Latin America’s biggest non-life insurance firm, as well as Spain’s foremost insurer. MAPFRE, founded in 1933, provides a wide range of insurance products and also has a charity foundation committed to social advancement.
Under this agreement, the men’s event will be identified as the Copa del Rey MAPFRE for the next three years.
The new arrangement has been implemented since October 29 matches, during which MAPFRE branding has been displayed.
In September, the RFEF appointed Ramón Plaza Bautista, a former Real Madrid official, to oversee its commercial activities. As the federation’s commercial director, he oversees the organisation’s new commercial and business development section.
On the deal, Ramón Plaza mentioned, “This is excellent news, which adds to the Federation the value of a world-renowned entity such as MAPFRE.”
Fernando Garrido, Marketing and Communications Director of MAPFRE Spain, said, “With this agreement, MAPFRE reaffirms its commitment to sport and society, seeking to reach every corner of the country and contribute to the dreams of millions of Spaniards through football, the ‘king’ sport in Spain, which is an integral part of the daily lives of many Spaniards for almost 50 weeks a year.”
After years of supporting other famous tournaments like the Copa del Rey de Vela, which it has sponsored for more than 15 years, as well as other sports like tennis, the insurance business underlines its support for the growth of sports through this partnership. This agreement seeks to support the promotion of sport in general and football in particular, which are vital components of Spanish society for millions of people.
Back in April 2024, the insurance firm also became the official sponsor of the Copa Libertadores, the most esteemed football club competition in South America.
