Manchester United stock rise on return of Ronaldo

The Portuguese legend returns to the club more than a decade after leaving.

The fans and investors celebrated the stunning return of the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United as the club’s Plc stock price surged.

Manchester United Plc’s price increased 5.8% in New York trading and closed at $18.29 on Friday after the club announced a deal with the Juventus Football Club. The club announced the advancement on Friday with the deal subject to the agreement of personal terms, medical and visa. The Italian football club also saw a rise of 1.2% on Friday.

Ronaldo shared a video on Instagram indicating his departure from Juventus, saying, “in the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.” He returns to Old Trafford roughly 12 years after he left the team to play for the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.

The team took to their official Twitter handle to welcome back Ronaldo and an announcement said, “everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester.”

The transfer came just a day after the reports of the rival Manchester City was the leading contender to sign Ronaldo. The Portugal player agreed to a deal of 15 million euro with a potential for 8 million euro in add-ons over two years, ESPN reported citing sources.

Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or five times, the most prized individual award for football players, along with that he also won over 30 major trophies during his career. The Portuguese star had 118 goals to his name in 292 matches during his time with Manchester United.
