AMPYR Distributed Energy (ADE) has formalised a strategic partnership with Manchester City, joining the Premier League club as an official supplier in a deal centred on delivering and operating on-site renewable energy infrastructure.

The agreement positions AMPYR as the club’s onsite power purchase agreement (PPA) provider, responsible for funding, installing, and managing solar energy systems across key assets within the City Football Academy and Joie Stadium. The first phase of the project is already operational, with more than 5,000 solar panels deployed across the campus.

The installation is designed to generate clean electricity to support a wide range of day-to-day operations, including training, matchday delivery, and administrative functions. By integrating renewable generation directly into its facilities, Manchester City is aiming to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources while improving long-term cost efficiency.

John Behan, CEO of ADE, said, “Manchester City is setting the standard for how leading organisations approach sustainability in practice. Our role as an Official Supplier reflects the work delivered to date and the responsibility we take on in operating this infrastructure for the long term.

“This is about turning ambition into real, operational infrastructure – delivering clean energy solutions that perform day in, day out. We’re proud to be supporting Manchester City as they continue to progress towards their long-term sustainability goals.”

The deal is structured under a long-term PPA model, allowing ADE to retain ownership and operational responsibility for the system, while the club purchases electricity at a fixed, pre-agreed rate. This model removes the need for upfront capital investment and offers protection against energy price volatility.

The partnership forms part of Manchester City’s broader sustainability strategy and reflects a wider trend across global sport, where clubs are increasingly adopting infrastructure-led solutions to manage both emissions and operating costs.

For ADE, the collaboration represents a flagship deployment within elite sport, strengthening its credentials in delivering scalable, distributed energy solutions in complex, high-demand environments.
