Manchester City crowned as Premier League Champions

Manchester City was crowned as the Champions of England after rivals and second-place Manchester United suffered defeat against Leicester City in Premier League at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Goals from Luke Thomas and Caglar Soyuncu on Tuesday were enough for Leicester City to take a big step towards Champions League qualification.

Courtesy of this result, Manchester City will lift the title irrespective of what happens in the final three games. They currently have a lead of ten points over Manchester United. This is Man City’s fifth PL title in nine years and they have proven to be the most dominant side in English Football in the past decade. Manchester City is also the biggest spenders in English football during this period. They have spent £818.5 M in transfers in the past five years under Pep Guardiola.

City has already won the Carabao Cup and is in the finals of the Champions League where they will face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in an all-English Final. Man City has reached the final for the first time in the club’s history. Champions League has been a thorn in the way of Pep Guardiola and his men as they have suffered embarrassments in the past four seasons.

In the first half of the season, they suffered as they did not have a proper number nine to score goals for them both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus were out due to injuries. Man City had some poor results at the start of the season. Since the defeat against Tottenham Hotspurs in early November, Man City suffered only two defeats in PL. They managed to go on a long winning run of 21 games in domestic competitions during this period. Ilkay Gundogan came up with crucial goals during this period as he managed to find the back of the net 12 times in the Premier League. The German midfielder is likely to end up as the top scorer for Man City in Premier League this season.
