The Malaysian Grand Prix will remain on the MotoGP calendar through the 2031 season after the Government of Malaysia and MotoGP commercial rights holder Dorna Sports agreed a new five-year contract extension covering the 2027–2031 period.
The renewed agreement secures the future of one of MotoGP’s most established events, ensuring the Petronas Sepang International Circuit continues to host the championship as a cornerstone of its Asian calendar. The extension follows the expiry of the current hosting agreement at the end of the 2026 season and provides long-term stability for one of Malaysia’s biggest annual sporting events.
Malaysia has been part of the MotoGP World Championship since 1991, while Sepang has served as the race’s permanent home since 1999. Over the past two decades, the circuit has become one of the sport’s most iconic venues, attracting fans from across Southeast Asia and generating significant economic benefits through tourism, hospitality and international exposure.
The extension comes on the back of a record-breaking 2025 edition, which welcomed 190,977 spectators across the race weekend—the highest attendance in the event’s history. The milestone reinforced MotoGP’s growing popularity in the region and highlighted Malaysia’s importance as a strategic market for the championship.
Commenting on the extension, the Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, said, “We are delighted that the Government has granted full approval at the Cabinet Meeting on 15 April 2026 for the renewal of MotoGP Malaysia from 2027 to 2031. This renewal goes beyond securing Malaysia’s place on the MotoGP global calendar. It reflects our commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s position as a leading motorsports destination while creating opportunities through economic growth, talent development and industry expansion. More importantly, MotoGP Malaysia has become a platform that brings Malaysians together, strengthens our sense of national pride and continues to stand as Malaysia’s longest-running international sporting event since its first edition in 1991.”
MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta added, “Malaysia is an important market for MotoGP, where we have a strong fanbase and have seen the positive economic impact of MotoGP increase year-on-year. On the track, the 2026 championship remains fiercely contested. Jorge Martín currently leads the riders’ standings, while Aprilia Racing tops the team championship as the season reaches its halfway stage. The next round of the championship is the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring, scheduled for July 10–12.
The 2026 Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix will take place from October 30 to November 1 2026, at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit.
