Italian sportswear brand Macron has signed a long term deal with Wales Rugby Union (WRU), becoming their Official Kit supplier. As per the deal, Macron will supply bespoke match-day kit as well as full training, travel and leisure wear to Wales’ men’s, women’s and age-grade teams from October onwards.
Under Armour has been the kit supplier since 2008, and had signed a nine-year deal in 2015 worth $4.8m per year. But now, due to early termination of the contract, WRU have managed to secure a seven-year agreement with the Italian brand.
As per the latest agreement, Macron will also provide £6m worth of kits to community rugby in Wales over the duration of the contract.
Macron is already existing in the market with supplying kits to multiple national rugby teams in Italy, Scotland, Canada, Germany and Portugal. It also supplies kit to Welsh side Scarlets and the Cardiff Blues, along with Newcastle Falcons, Northampton Saints, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby.
The Italy-based brand also supplies the kit for referees in the cross-border Pro14 tournament. This partnership is unique as Macron along with supplying team and leisure wear to the national squad, is also extending the support to the community games.
Community game in Wales hold a lot of value and it will surely benefit the brand in the commercial window.
