Lionel Messi joins MLS club Inter Miami

This deal between Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will provide a significant boost for American soccer.

One of the greatest football players of all time, Lionel Messi announced that he will be joining the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Inter Miami.

The MLS side, co-owned by David Beckham, also unveiled a video on its social media handles featuring the 35-year-old football player.

Messi turned down a lucrative opportunity to sign with Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League (SPL), where he would have faced off against Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

This deal will provide a significant boost for American soccer, which has attracted superstars such as Pele, Beckham, and Thierry Henry over the years.

The 35-year-old joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2021 after departing from FC Barcelona after 17 seasons in which he helped the Catalan club win 35 titles, including four UEFA Champions League, 10 LaLiga titles, and seven Copas del Rey.

Messi won a record six Ballon d’Or trophies as the world’s best player while at Barcelona. He remains the team’s all-time leading scorer with 672 goals in 778 games, as well as the best scorer in the Spanish league with 474 goals in 520 games.

Messi also played 75 games across all competitions for PSG, scoring 34 goals and 32 assists and contributing to their Ligue 1 championship victory as well this year.
