The Legends League Cricket has roped in the pacer Jhulan Goswami as the tournament’s ambassador to nurture and promote woman’s empowerment initiatives. She will be launching special initiatives under this collaboration to promote female participation in cricket.
Following this spirit, the cricket league has also created an all-women match official team that would officiate the entire men’s competition for the first time in cricket history. This unique team would include female umpires and referees from the ICC panel spread across the globe. Some notable umpires selected are Shubdha Bhosle Gaikwad, the youngest female umpire in India, Lauren Agenbag hailing from South Africa, Humaira Farah from Pakistan and Renee Montgomery brought up in Hongkong. The match referee for the entire competition will be Shandre Frtiz from South Africa.
Jhulan Goswami also gave her comments on this initiative and said, “This is amazing. I feel proud and elated to represent the fraternity for such a wonderful cause and initiative. It was long due actually. I am looking forward to the Legends of the game taking on to the field once again and putting in their best to play competitive cricket. My best wishes to the match officials, I am sure they will do a brilliant job. This is going to be historic and path-breaking for Cricket as a sport.”
On this historical move, Raman Raheja, the CEO of Legends League Cricket said, “Much has been spoken about uplifting and supporting women cricket over the years. ICC made significant steps last year in making Cricket gender-neutral. I think this was one such strong statement that we wanted to make by empowering the women officials to officiate the entire men’s league. They all are qualified and have been there right at the top level. I think we may be able to set a trend that will be picked up all over the world in days to come.”
The league has implemented significant moves to get recognized and popularized in the cricket fraternity. Recently, it roped in the gaming platform, Howzat as the title sponsor. LLC teamed up with Sony Pictures Networks for the live streaming and broadcast of the competition. The legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan was also appointed as the brand ambassador of the league to promote the tournament and Ravi Shastri was named as commissioner.
