The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has awarded Laqshya Media Group the mandate to deliver matchday entertainment and fan engagement for the 2026 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), reinforcing the league’s push towards a more immersive, fan-centric live experience.
As part of the mandate, Laqshya Media Group will curate the end-to-end in-stadium spectator experience across all 22 matches of the tournament. The scope includes ceremonial programming, live performances, technology-driven activations, and large-scale fan engagement initiatives, positioning WPL 2026 as a combined sporting and cultural spectacle.
The season will open tonight with a high-profile opening ceremony featuring bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez, designed to set the tone for the tournament. The closing ceremony will feature a live performance by rapper and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh, bringing the season to a close with a large-scale entertainment showcase.
Commenting on the association, Alok Jalan, Chairman and Managing Director, Laqshya Media Group, said, “India is a country where sport is not just watched; it is deeply felt. At Laqshya, our focus is on building meaningful, scalable sporting experiences that go far beyond one tournament or one season. The Women’s Premier League is a defining moment for women’s sport in India, and we are committed to creating platforms, visibility, and fan engagement models that will continue to elevate Indian sport for years to come.”
Beyond the opening and closing ceremonies, Laqshya Media Group will deploy a high-frequency engagement model across every WPL 2026 fixture. Planned elements include mid-innings live performances by established artists, synchronised drone and laser shows, and large-format visual experiences within stadiums. These will be complemented by traditional fan engagement formats such as live brass bands and on-ground activations, blending local sporting culture with contemporary global entertainment standards.
The mandate also extends beyond the stadium. Laqshya Media Group is executing a nationwide out-of-home visibility campaign for WPL 2026, spanning major metropolitan cities, state capitals, and key airport locations. The campaign will use a mix of digital and static formats to amplify the league’s presence beyond match venues and broadcast platforms.
The appointment reflects the BCCI’s strategic focus on strengthening the live event dimension of the WPL as the league enters its next phase of growth. With rising stadium attendance and sustained fan interest, in-venue engagement is increasingly viewed as a critical driver of audience loyalty and commercial value.
For Laqshya Media Group, the mandate further consolidates its position within India’s sports marketing and live experience landscape, particularly in cricket-led properties. For the WPL, the partnership underlines the league’s evolution into a premium sporting and entertainment product, with immersive matchday experiences playing a central role in shaping its identity.
The 2026 Women’s Premier League season is expected to build on the commercial momentum and audience growth of previous editions, with enhanced matchday entertainment set to be a defining pillar of the tournament.
