As La Liga moves towards the business end of one of the most exciting seasons, where each clash could decide the fate of the teams in the race to the title, game week 35 kept the Indian audience hooked onto their screens. La Liga title race is heating up as all three big Spanish clubs have a chance of winning the title.

Key clashes between FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid-Sevilla FC saw a cumulative viewership of 4.7 million on La Liga Facebook watch over the weekend. This year’s La Liga title race has been extremely competitive with a few points separating the top four teams.

In a run-up to the title, two key fixtures over the weekend having a kick-off time suitable to the Indian audience witnessed some of the most gripping football games where 3.5 million viewers tuned in to watch FC Barcelona take on Atletico de Madrid on Saturday, while the match between Real Madrid and Sevilla FC on Sunday post-midnight roped in viewership of 1.2mn.

Jose Antonio Cachaza, Managing Director, LaLiga India said, “We always knew that India is a sport-loving nation with a strong reverence to key clashes and the recent viewership numbers are a testimony to the fact. We have also witnessed strong and steady growth in viewership over the past couple of seasons which makes LaLiga’s outing in the Indian subcontinent encouraging and worthwhile. We will continue to invest and ensure the Indian audience gets closer to the wonderful game of football and experience the passion of LaLiga.”

Atletico Madrid is in the pole position to win the La Liga after Barcelona dropped points again in their match against Levante. It will be the second La Liga title for Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone if they manage to win all their remaining games this season, starting with the clash against Real Sociedad on Wednesday.
