Konami Digital Entertainment, a global leader in digital entertainment, has partnered with the legendary Indian football player, Sunil Chhetri, releasing his special player card and avatar in eFootball, which has been premiered on October 9 to coincide with Diwali celebrations.
As part of the festivities, Konami introduced the Diwali Cup, a national-level eFootball event with a INR 1 lakh prize pool.
Registrations for the Diwali Cup are open on the eFootball India Discord server till October 16. Matches will take held from October 16 to October 30, with top performances and the winner having the opportunity to meet guests like Sunil Chhetri, KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Focused Indian, and Ahan Shetty at an exclusive event in Mumbai in December.
To commemorate Diwali, Konami will launch an in-game Diwali Campaign with customised jerseys, firework goal effects, and festive profile banners, incorporating elements of Indian culture throughout the game. Fans can also buy the Sunil Chhetri Starter Set, which will be available beginning in November.
Junichi Taya, eFootball, General Producer at KONAMI, said, “India has an incredible passion for football, and Sunil Chhetri stands as a true symbol of that spirit. We are honored to celebrate his career with this special in-game card. Additionally, as we look to build a stronger presence in the sub-continent, we are seeking to embrace localized activations, and this aligns with our vision perfectly. This collaboration reflects our long-term commitment to Indian fans as we look forward to seeing them celebrate both their hero and their festival inside eFootball.”
With almost two decades of international football experience, Sunil Chhetri’s entry in eFootball represents a new chapter in his history. For Indian football enthusiasts, the launch is intended to be a celebration of national pride, enthusiasm, and the expanding strength of the game. As KONAMI continues to create relevant, localised experiences across the subcontinent, the brand aims to keep Indian fans at the core of eFootball.
