Juventus has finally managed to sign Italian midfielder Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo. After month’s of trying to persuade Locatelli to join, Juventus has successfully got the deal finalised. According to reports, Premier League club Arsenal was also interested but the midfielder always had Juventus as his priority.
Juventus is set to pay Sassuolo a total of €35 million in the deal. They will be paying €5 million now but the rest (€30 million) will be paid in the summer of 2022. It’s essentially a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause inserted.
Locatelli had a brilliant UEFA Euro season and was in full flow. The Italian has an abundance of talent and is a tricky player, which will benefit Juventus greatly. The Old Lady already has some exciting young Italian talent like Chiesa, Bernadeschi and now Locatelli.
The Serie A side has been chasing down Locatelli for a long time now. After the stellar Serie A season, Sassuolo managed to finish 8th, they had him on the radar.
The 23-year-old registered two goals in the UEFA Euros. Moreover, he scored four goals and three assists in Serie A last season with Sassuolo.
The highly anticipated upcoming season of the Italian top-flight is set to commence from August 21. The first fixture will be played between the defending champions Inter Milan and Genoa at 5:30 PM IST.
