The inaugural edition of the Jharkhand T20 Cricket League (JT20CL) has received a significant commercial boost with JioHotstar signing on as the tournament’s exclusive digital streaming partner, strengthening the league’s ambition to become a major platform for cricket talent emerging from the state.
Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)-affiliated Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) in partnership with sports management firm SJ Uplift, the franchise-based competition marks a new chapter for domestic cricket in Jharkhand. The league is part of a long-term initiative aimed at creating a sustainable ecosystem for player development while providing local cricketers with greater exposure and professional opportunities.
The tournament will feature six franchises representing different regions of Jharkhand: Ranchi Titans, Jamshedpur Steelers, Dhanbad Diamonds, Chota Nagpur Royals, Koylanchal Super Kings and Santhal Strikers. The teams were assembled through a player auction held in Jamshedpur, conducted by renowned sports presenter and auctioneer Charu Sharma.
Several of Jharkhand’s most recognisable cricketers are set to feature in the competition. India international wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was drafted by Santhal Strikers, while experienced domestic performer Virat Singh joined Chota Nagpur Royals. Other notable names in the league include Robin Minz, Kumar Kushagra, Anukul Roy and Sushant Mishra, providing the tournament with a strong blend of established and emerging talent.
The partnership with JioHotstar is expected to significantly enhance the league’s visibility by making matches accessible to cricket fans across the country through one of India’s largest digital sports platforms. For players, the expanded reach offers an opportunity to showcase their abilities before a broader audience that includes fans, scouts and cricket stakeholders.
Speaking on the impact of the league, JSCA President Ajay Nath Shah Deo said, “Jharkhand has been such an integral part of Indian cricket for a long time, and the Jharkhand T20 League will only further strengthen that core and create a pipeline for notable and aspiring cricketers alike.”
With franchise identities established, squads finalised and a national streaming platform secured, anticipation is building ahead of the league’s inaugural season. The Jharkhand T20 Cricket League represents a significant addition to India’s growing landscape of state-based franchise tournaments and aims to provide a competitive platform for the next generation of cricket talent from Jharkhand.
