Japanese football fans to enjoy UEFA Euro 2024 on Wowow

Wowow's acquisition extends its longstanding reign as the go-to destination for European national team football in Japan.

Wowow, the premier satellite television network in Japan, has secured the media rights to broadcast all 51 matches live of the upcoming UEFA Men’s European Championship, i.e., EURO 2024.

This deal, finalised through UEFA‘s partner agency CAA Eleven, ensures comprehensive coverage of the prestigious tournament for Japanese audiences.

Wowow’s acquisition extends its longstanding reign as the go-to destination for European national team football in Japan. The network has held the broadcasting rights for the Euros since the turn of the century. The 24-team tournament will be held across 10 German venues, kicking off on June 14 and culminating on July 14, 2024.

This move further strengthens Wowow’s commitment to delivering top-tier sports content to its subscribers. In late April, the network secured the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Wowow will be Japan’s exclusive broadcaster of the Champions League while offering select matches from the lower tiers and the UEFA Youth League.

This acquisition strengthens Wowow’s commitment to delivering high-quality sports content to its subscribers. With EURO 2024 set to showcase some of the world’s best footballers, Japanese audiences can anticipate an exciting month of competition.

Wowow is a premium pay TV channel in Japan, offering a diverse range of entertainment content including movies, dramas, documentaries, and, of course, sports. Launched in 1990, it holds the distinction of being the country’s first private satellite broadcaster. Wowow provides high-definition broadcasts and has even produced original programming that has garnered international acclaim. Beyond football, the network boasts broadcasting rights for a variety of other sports, including rugby union’s Super Rugby Pacific, Ladies PGA Tour golf, NBA basketball, ATP Tour tennis, and high-profile boxing events.
