Jaipur Rugs, the world’s best handcrafted rugs & premium handmade carpets made by rural artisans in India, has unveiled a unique and captivating ad campaign featuring a tennis court transformed into a mesmerizing “Court of Carpets”.
The initiative transformed a traditional tennis court into a mesmerizing tapestry of 93 exquisite rugs, setting the stage for an unforgettable match between renowned tennis player Rohan Bopanna and a team of skilled village weavers.
At the heart of the campaign lies an inspiring story of human potential. Hailing from the weaving village of Manpura, north of Jaipur, artisans Annu Kumari, Payal Kumari, Lalita Kumari, and Shrimati Poonam Devi embarked on an extraordinary journey. Under the guidance of in-house tennis pro Anshul Pareek, they underwent rigorous training, transforming from skilled weavers to promising tennis players.
Annu Kumari’s words echo the transformative power of the experience, “Humne sapne main bhi kabhi nahi socha tha ki hamaare kaam ke karan humein aise bhi mauka milega” (Who knew our craft could open such doors?)
The match itself was a spectacle to behold. Dressed in a fusion of traditional Indian attire and classic tennis whites, the artisan players presented a striking visual contrast. As the ball soared across the “Court of Carpets,” it became evident that these weavers had honed not just their craft but also their athletic abilities. In a surprising twist, one of the weaver players secured a point against Bopanna, showcasing their newfound tennis prowess.
Beyond the thrilling match, the campaign highlighted the meticulous craftsmanship of Jaipur Rugs. The tennis net, a marvel of weaving artistry, took 15 days to create. Handcrafted woollen tennis balls, featuring vibrant neon and white sections, were produced at a rate of 20-25 per day, totaling 110-120 for the shoot. Even the tennis rackets were meticulously crafted, with bamboo silk forming the inner part.
Jaipur Rugs is not merely a luxury brand; it’s a catalyst for social change. Founded in 1978, the company has grown into a global enterprise, transforming the lives of countless rural artisans. Through initiatives that extend beyond business, Jaipur Rugs provides sustainable livelihoods, education, and opportunities for growth within these communities.
As the brand expands its global footprint with new stores in Southeast Asia, India, and Singapore, it carries the spirit of empowerment and the legacy of its skilled artisans.
With Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji gearing up for the Men’s doubles competition at the Paris Olympics 2024, the spotlight continues to shine on Indian tennis.
The “Court of Carpets” campaign is more than just a marketing spectacle; it’s a powerful narrative of human potential, artistic excellence, and corporate responsibility. It’s a reminder that when passion, skill, and purpose converge, the results are extraordinary.
