ISL: FC Goa signs strategic deal with RB Leipzig

FC Goa has become the latest Indian Super League club (ISL) to sign a partnership deal with a European club. The Goa-based club has announced a three-year strategic partnership with Red Bull Leipzig. This partnership allows both clubs to explore avenues in India on and off the pitch. The two clubs will also focus on developing young talent.

The ISL club will benefit from the impressive coaching setup at Leipzig as coaches from Germany are likely to hold workshops in Goa as part of this deal. The partnership deal also includes organizing training camps across India.

This is not the first time a top German club has signed a deal with an ISL club. In August 2020, Borussia Dortmund had announced a two-year strategic partnership with Hyderabad FC. Atletico Madrid has worked with Atletico de Kolkata in the past, while the City group has recently reached an agreement to make Mumbai City FC their sister club.

RB Leipzig has shot to fame in very little time. The German club was founded in 2009. They stook quick and steady steps to the top division league of Germany. Leipzig has now firmly established itself as one of the top four clubs in the Bundesliga.

Under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann, RB Leipzig qualified for their maiden semi-finals of the Champions League last season. The German club is widely recognized for identifying and developing young talent from different parts of the globe. RB Leipzig’s astute use of technology, coaching, and a good scouting network helps them to compete with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

FC Goa is also known for nurturing young talent in ISL, so this partnership could be a step in the right direction for young footballers in India. The ISL club is currently preparing for the new season as the tournament kicks off on November 20 in Goa.
