It has been a season to forget for MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings in IPL as they are likely to finish at the bottom of the table for the first time in the tournament’s history. An era of dominance is over for CSK, so a rebuilt is likely to take place in the next couple of seasons.
Dhoni has been the talisman of the franchise over the years, but the recent incidents suggest he might be bringing curtains on his glittering IPL career. After the win against Kolkata Knight Riders, Dhoni was spotted giving jerseys to young players from the KKR dugout.
Earlier in the campaign, the 39-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman had also gifted jersey to the Pandya brothers after a game against Mumbai Indians.
Rajasthan Royals’ explosive batsman Jos Butler was also pictured holding a CSK jersey with Dhoni’s name on it after a game in IPL.
Giving away his beloved yellow kit to his admirers could be a parting gift from Dhoni. After all, the charismatic wicketkeeper does make tough decisions spontaneously. Just before the start of IPL 2020, he had announced his retirement from the international campaign.
With the final league around the corner, maybe Dhoni will drop a similar truth bomb. Giving away jerseys to young players doesn’t mean anything since players idolize him. However, one cannot rule out young players wanting to cherish this moment with Dhoni as the end is near in IPL for India’s most successful captain.
