Star India is eyeing on breaking records for the maximum viewership till date for IPL 2020. Disney Star India chairman, Mr. Uday Shankar has predicted that IPL will deliver reach of 550Mn+ in India alone and has become ‘unique IPL , creating a global benchmark’.
Beyond the live programming, broadcast is to be distributed in over 100 countries. SportsMint has learnt reliably from its sources that, Star India has not cut any rates in terms of advertising amidst the Covid-19 and is all set to sell the slots at the same rates as before.
Star has already sold nearly 80% of the ad slots and remaining will be closed soon. As per one of the reports, the spot rate for IPL ads currently is Rs 12-13 lakh, which is 10 percent higher than last year, as the ad rates in 2019 for the league ranged between Rs 10-11 lakh.
Meanwhile Star India is also working closely with BCCI and IPL franchises on ways to increase fan engagement. One of the technologies is the use of LED walls mounted in the stadiums which will connect to the fans. This is one of the best ways to engage fans and also keeps the morale of the players high, so that they do not feel isolated playing in an empty stadium.
With everyone locked inside homes and glued on to TV screens or either mobile, this is the best opportunity for Star to capitalise and maximise the revenue through multiple channels. There is no doubt that Star India will surely gather more eyeballs than before for IPL 2020, as people are eagerly waiting for the action to resume soon.
