IPL Retention 2022: Rohit, Jadeja, Pant are the highest-paid players

Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni took a pay cut from their IPL salaries.

Ahead of the mega auction for the Indian Premier League 15, the eight teams had a chance to retain a few of their stalwarts. A few retentions and several releases came in as a shock for fans. The popular names that carried their respective teams to glory won’t be donning the same jersey. The upcoming mega-auction would be interesting to witness considering the inclusion of big names in it.

Let’s have a look at the three players who became the highest-paid cricketers following the IPL 2022 retention:

Ravindra Jadeja (16 crore INR, CSK):

A player who has been a dynamic force for CSK for several IPL seasons has received a whopping Rs 16 crore to become one of the costliest retentions for the defending champions. To know that Mahendra Singh Dhoni took a pay cut to make space for Ravindra Jadeja is itself a fact that the team believes in one goal and works on it together. Jadeja has shown massive improvement in his batting since the resumption of cricket after the COVID break and perhaps has been the most impactful player for the southern team in the last few seasons of the IPL.

Rishabh Pant (16 crore INR, Delhi Capitals):

A brave and important decision from Delhi Capitals. Rishabh Pant is not only a key figure for DC but for the Indian team as well, he may become a flagbearer for the national side in coming years. One thing that fans want to see in him is consistency and that’s what the captaincy role has brought in him. The young southpaw’s potential as a captain was there to be seen with the way he managed some of the big players in the team, despite being a youngster himself.

Rohit Sharma (16 crore INR, Mumbai Indians):

Undoubtedly the number one choice for the team, this isn’t a surprise for anyone. Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain with five IPL titles to his name along with 5000 runs in the marquee Indian domestic T20 league. The franchise can see him as a captain for another three years and maybe beyond if he continues to add more trophies to the team’s cabinet.
