IPL Auction 2023 witnessed 25% cumulative growth on Star Sports

The English all-rounder, Sam Curran attracted a bid of INR 18.5 crore from Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The IPL Auction 2023, which took place in Kochi on December 23, 2022, witnessed a significant rise of 25% in cumulative reach (live, cricket and build-up programming included) with 50.6 million viewers watching the auction live on Star Sports.

The mini-auction of IPL in 2021 saw 40.6 million viewers. A 10% growth in total consumption of the IPL Auction 2023 was recorded with 1.59 billion minutes as compared to IPL 2021 mini auction which accumulated 1.44 billion minutes.

Commenting on the rise of cumulative reach, a Star Sports spokesperson said, “This year’s auction panelists on Star Sports were handpicked to provide the best insights to our viewers. To cater to the needs of our diverse audience, we also provided a comprehensive broadcast of the auction in five different languages – English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu & Kannada. Furthermore, our social campaign, #AuctionStar trended as high as #3 on Twitter and was in the Top 10 for the duration of the auction.”

The recently conducted auction was one for the ages as it shattered the record of the most expensive player in the history of IPL. The English all-rounder, Sam Curran attracted a bid of INR 18.5 crore from Punjab Kings (PBKS). The Aussie all-rounder, Cameron Green was also bought for INR 17.5 crore by Mumbai Indians (MI).
