Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their strong march towards the Indian Premier League 2026 playoffs with a commanding six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 57 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday.

Led by another masterclass from Virat Kohli, RCB successfully chased down a target of 193 to strengthen their hold near the top of the league table, while Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a damaging setback in their playoff campaign.

After being put in to bat, the Knight Riders recovered from an inconsistent start to post a competitive 192/4 in their 20 overs. Much of the innings revolved around Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who continued his season with another composed half-century under pressure.

The 21-year-old registered his fourth 50-plus score of the campaign, the most by a KKR batter aged 21 or younger in a single IPL season, further underlining his emergence as one of the franchise’s brightest young performers.

Finn Allen once again provided early momentum with an aggressive cameo during the powerplay before being dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who delivered another impactful spell alongside Josh Hazlewood. The experienced RCB pace duo controlled the scoring through disciplined lengths and timely breakthroughs on a surface offering assistance with the new ball.

Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green then rebuilt the innings through an important middle-over partnership that steadied Kolkata after the early wickets. However, it was Rinku Singh’s explosive, unbeaten 49 late in the innings that lifted KKR beyond the 190-run mark and gave the visitors a potentially defendable total.

Bhuvneshwar’s wicket during the innings also saw him equal the record for the most wickets taken against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL history with 33 scalps.

In response, the Royal Challengers approached the chase with control and clarity despite early pressure from Kolkata’s bowling attack. Virat Kohli once again anchored the innings with a measured yet authoritative knock that kept the chase firmly under Bengaluru’s control.

The innings added another chapter to Kohli’s remarkable T20 legacy. The former RCB captain became the fastest batter in history to reach 14,000 T20 runs, achieving the milestone in just 409 innings. He also extended his record for the most IPL seasons with 400 or more runs, reaching the mark for a 12th time.

Devdutt Padikkal provided valuable support during the middle overs as Bengaluru maintained the required run rate comfortably throughout the chase. RCB eventually sealed victory with six wickets in hand with five deliveries remaining.

The defeat leaves Kolkata Knight Riders facing an increasingly difficult route to the playoffs, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to build momentum at a crucial stage of the tournament with both their experienced batting core and pace attack delivering consistently under pressure.

Scorecard:

Kolkata Knight Riders: 192-4, Overs 20, Angkrish Raghuvanshi 71, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/34

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 194-4, Overs 19.1, Virat Kohli 105*, Kartik Tyagi 3/32
