In the 21st match of the IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 57 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Sunrisers’ batting effort was characterised by aggressive purpose and a memorable captain’s knock. Following the early dismissals of Abhishek Sharma for a duck and Travis Head (18), Ishan Kishan seized complete charge, hitting 91 off 44 balls at a strike rate of 206.82. His innings, which included six sixes and eight fours, was the backbone of the SRH total. Heinrich Klaasen, who produced a solid 40 off 26, and Nitish Kumar Reddy‘s late-innings cameo (28 off 13), helped SRH record an impressive 216/6. The squad skilfully negotiated the RR spin danger, scoring at a strong pace even in the middle overs to set a massive target.

The Royals’ batting unit endured a historic collapse, falling to 9 for 5 in the first three overs. Top-order talents like Orange Cap holder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel all struggled against Hinge’s swing, scoring singles or ducks. Donovan Ferreira (69) and Ravindra Jadeja (45) provided the sole resistance, scoring 118 runs together for the sixth wicket. While Ferreira’s counter-attack included three massive sixes, the asking rate had risen to 15 runs per over, rendering the target unattainable.

Bowling was nothing short of a “debutant masterclass” from Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain. The two young pacers demolished the Royals’ world-class squad with four wickets apiece. Hinge had an outstanding opening stint, taking three wickets in his first over and concluded with 4/34, virtually terminating the chase upfront. Sakib Hussain (4/24) delivered the last strikes, deceiving Ferreira with slower ones. Additionally, Eshan Malinga contributed 2/31, including a critical wicket of Jadeja. The visitors were caught off guard by the newcomers’ collective discipline and sheer speed on a flat surface.

Despite winning the toss and opting to bowl, the RR bowlers failed to restrict SRH attack on a batting-friendly Hyderabad pitch. While Jofra Archer was economical in patches (2/37) and Nandre Burger (0/31) kept things tight, the support cast was costly.

With this win, SRH have secured their second win of the season and are now fourth in the points table.

Scorecard:

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 216/6, Overs 20, Ishan Kishan 91, Jofra Archer 2/37

Rajasthan Royals: 159/10, Overs 19, Donovan Ferreira 69, Sakib Hussain 4/24
