In the 67th match of the IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 55 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
SRH transformed the Uppal stadium into an ultimate launchpad from the first delivery, shredding RCB’s bowling unit and scoring a whopping 255/4. Opening the attack, Abhishek Sharma (56) set a scorching tone by hitting fifty in only 22 balls, with a focus on controlling the powerplay. Vice-captain Ishan Kishan (79) provided structural solidity while maintaining momentum, striking a superbly balanced yet aggressive fifty. Heinrich Klaasen (51) then entered to thoroughly demoralise the opposition, smashing a quick fifty that featured an incredible 27-run blitz in a single Josh Hazlewood over. Nitish Kumar Reddy‘s (29) last flourish helped SRH reach 250 runs.
Faced with a daunting 256-run target, RCB’s batting unit attacked the chase with a deliberate dual goal, first battling for the victory, then rotating to secure the necessary runs to preserve their top spot on the ladder. Venkatesh Iyer produced a quick, brave start at the top of the order, helping the side to reach 100 runs by the 10th over despite losing early wickets. Captain Rajat Patidar anchored the innings with a half-century (56), forming a solid partnership with Krunal Pandya (41). When victory became mathematically impossible, Patidar and Tim David gradually reduced the defensive thresholds, propelling RCB to a final score of 200/4, ensuring a first-place qualifying finish.
Defending an enormous total, the SRH bowling lineup used a highly successful defensive plan to force the opposition out of the game. Eshan Malinga was the outstanding bowler, posting fantastic figures of 2/33 over four overs while stymying RCB’s middle order with deceptive variations of speed. While skipper Pat Cummins and his supporting cast conceded loose runs under intense pressure from RCB’s aggressive intent, they were able to maintain the scoring pace below the needed 12.8 runs per over. Head also got in on the action late, taking a crucial wicket in the dying overs to help secure the 55-run victory.
The RCB bowling unit had a horrible outing, losing their lines on a flat, batsman-friendly Hyderabad track. The extremely experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a difficult outing, tying an unfortunate all-time IPL record for the most occasions leaking 50 or more runs in an innings. Josh Hazlewood fared little better, conceding 55 runs without making a breakthrough after being picked apart by Klaasen. While young Rasikh Salam Dar showed tenacity to emerge as the pick of the bowlers with stats of 2/52, the collective unit’s failure to control the run rate raised serious defensive worries ahead of their Qualifier 1 match against Gujarat Titans.
While SRH scored a comprehensive victory to solidify their top-three position, RCB went away with a huge silver lining, handily crossing the threshold necessary to claim first place on the points table heading into the playoffs.
