Match 10 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium saw Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinch a nail-biting 5-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Mohammed Shami was the uncontested standout with the ball, bowling one of the most economical periods in IPL history. His first burst produced 2/9 in 4 overs, including an incredible 18 dot balls that essentially shut down SRH’s powerplay. While Shami provided the squeeze, the supporting cast kept the pressure on. Avesh Khan (2/36) and Prince Yadav (2/34) brought up key wickets at the death, halting SRH’s momentum just as they were about to erupt. M. Siddharth was instrumental in the middle, keeping things tight with 1/29 and ensuring that, despite the Klaasen-Reddy attack, the objective stayed within reach.
In the chase, Rishabh Pant (68*) was the main guy, playing with poise to help the side cross the finish line. LSG seemed comfortable at 53/1 following powerplay. However, wickets came at regular intervals, including cheap dismissals of Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran, making the chase a “humdinger.” Pant, who battled with rhythm at first, had remarkable coolness as the needed tempo increased. He found a reliable partner in Ayush Badoni (12) and then Abdul Samad (16), who contributed crucial wickets. With 19 required from the final 18 balls, the game went down to the wire. Pant eventually clinched the deal in the last over, slamming Jaydev Unadkat for a boundary on the fifth ball to secure victory with one ball remaining.
The SRH innings was a tale of two halves. After being put in to bat, they had a disastrous start, falling to 35/4 in the first 10 overs. The touted opening combination of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were blown away early on, leaving the middle order vulnerable. Captain Ishan Kishan too struggled to make an impression. Heinrich Klaasen (62) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (56) spearheaded the rescue mission with an incredible 116 runs. The partnership altered gears in the middle overs, scoring 79 runs between overs 11 and 15. While Klaasen offered steadiness, Nitish was the aggressor, hammering five sixes to help SRH to a solid 156/9.
SRH bowlers fought bravely to defend a low score. Harsh Dubey was the highlight of the bowlers, with 2/18 in 4 overs. Eshan Malinga (1/30) and Shivang Kumar (1/30) gave adequate help, but the loss of early wickets was expensive. The last over went to veteran Jaydev Unadkat, who had a torrid day, allowing 50 runs in 3.5 overs.
With this win, LSG have secured their first two points of the season.
