In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match no 13, Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by a commanding 27 runs at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati to continue their successful campaign, in a match that was significantly shortened to 11 overs per side owing to persistent rain.
RR’ batting was a masterpiece in power hitting from the start. Yashasvi Jaiswal (77) led the way with a blazing knock, hitting the boundary 10 times and clearing it four times. He was ably helped by 15-year-old phenom Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (39), who made his mark on the big stage by hammering five huge sixes, two of which came against Jasprit Bumrah. Their opening stand provided such a solid foundation that even a late-innings slowness allowed RR to end with a staggering 150/3.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians’ chase never truly found their groove. The target of 151 in 11 overs required a strike rate of nearly 14 runs per over, but the big guns struggled to deliver. Rohit Sharma (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (6) departed early, leaving too much to the middle order. Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford gave brief sparks with 25 runs each, but MI’s lack of a solid partnership meant they were continually behind the asking rate, eventually finishing at 123/9.
RR’s bowling unit accomplished their strategy flawlessly for a shortened game. Ravi Bishnoi was the star performer, taking 2/25 in the humid conditions, including the important wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Nandre Burger and Sandeep Sharma were also effective, taking two wickets each while remaining disciplined. Their ability to take wickets at regular intervals stopped MI from gaining momentum, thus ending the chase by the eighth over.
In contrast, Mumbai Indians’ bowlers struggled to contain the RR openers on a slick outfield. Bumrah went wicketless and conceded 32 runs in three overs. Shardul Thakur felt the brunt of Jaiswal’s zeal, conceding 36 runs in just two overs. The only bright spot for MI was the young Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar, who showed wonderful control to take up 2/21 in his two overs, briefly stopping the RR onslaught.
With this win, RR are now at the top of the table with six points.
