IPL 2025 SRH vs MI: MI clinch fourth straight win, defeat SRH by seven wickets

This victory in the 41st match of the Indian Premier League 2025 marks MI's fourth consecutive win and completes a season double over the Hyderabad franchise.

Mumbai Indians (MI) extended their winning momentum with a commanding seven-wicket triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium tonight.

This victory in the 41st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 marks MI’s fourth consecutive win and completes a season double over the Hyderabad franchise.

MI captain Hardik Pandya‘s decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved inspiring as his bowling unit delivered a clinical performance to restrict the home side to a modest total of 143 for 8. The SRH innings stumbled right from the outset, reeling at a precarious 24 for 4 by the end of the powerplay. The potent swing-bowling duo of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult wreaked havoc on the SRH top order. This dismal start marked a historic low for SRH, as it was the first time since 2013 that they had lost their first four wickets within the initial 20 deliveries of an IPL innings. Furthermore, their powerplay score was the lowest recorded by any team this season, highlighting the brilliance of Mumbai’s opening bowlers.

However, a resilient partnership blossomed between impact player Abhinav Manohar and Heinrich Klaasen. The pair forged a crucial 99-run stand, which stands as the highest-ever sixth-wicket (or lower) partnership for SRH in the IPL, showcasing their determination to fight back. Klaasen played a valiant innings, top-scoring with 71 off 44 deliveries. Just as SRH appeared to be staging a recovery, Jasprit Bumrah delivered a vital breakthrough, dismissing Klaasen and in the process claiming his landmark 300th T20 wicket. Boult returned to dismantle the tail in the final over, picking up two more wickets to conclude the SRH innings at 143. Despite the early collapse, SRH managed to add 53 runs in their final five overs, demonstrating some late-order resistance.

Chasing a manageable target, MI faced an early setback, losing opener Ryan Rickelton to a sharp reflex catch by Jaydev Unadkat, who celebrated his 100th IPL wicket. However, the experienced Rohit Sharma and the aggressive Will Jacks counter-attacked effectively, propelling MI to 56 for 1 by the end of the powerplay. During this assertive start, Rohit reached a monumental milestone, becoming only the second Indian to amass 12000 runs in T20 cricket.

The flourishing 60-run partnership was broken by Zeeshan Ansari, who dismissed Jacks for 22. Undeterred, Rohit continued his sublime form, forging another crucial 50-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav, effectively taking the game away from the Sunrisers. Rohit eventually departed for a well-compiled 70, leaving MI needing a mere 14 runs off 33 balls.

SKY provided the finishing touches with a blistering innings of 40 off just 19 balls, ensuring MI crossed the finish line comfortably with 26 balls to spare.

This emphatic victory propels Mumbai Indians to the third position on the league table and underlines their growing momentum in the tournament. Conversely, the season continues to be a challenging one for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who will need to regroup swiftly to reverse their current trajectory.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Trent Boult, for his exceptional bowling spell of four wickets for just 26 runs.
