LSG won the toss and opted to field first. Shardul Thakur, who went unsold in the auction and was brought in as a replacement, was the top man with the ball for the visitors as he delivered wickets upfront and pushed back SRH. While others also picked wickets, Prince Yadav was also economical. The home team, which recorded a total of 286 on this very ground in a previous match, could only manage 190/9 in 20 overs.
Mitchell Marsh (52) started the chase aggressively, hitting seven fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 167.74. However, Nicholas Pooran (70) was the true hero of the evening, unleashing a devastating onslaught on the SRH bowlers. Pooran hit his fifty in a scorching 18 balls, keeping the scoreboard ticking away. The two hitters formed a commanding 116-run partnership for the third wicket, putting the visitors on the edge of victory. With the majority of the work done, Rishabh Pant (15), David Miller (13), and Abdul Samad (22) helped LSG conclude the chase and secure a comfortable victory.
SRH had a difficult start to their innings, as in-form batters Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were dismissed cheaply. Travis Head (47) resumed his hot streak and appeared to be on track for another massive score; however, he got out just before his fifty. The lower middle-order stepped up, with Nitish Kumar Reddy (32), Heinrich Klaasen (26), and Aniket Verma (36) scoring crucial runs to enable the hosts to reach 190/9.
Thakur was exceptional with the ball as he plucked four wickets, which also included top hitters Kishan and Sharma. One wicket each was also bagged by Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, and Prince Yadav.
For SRH with the ball, Pat Cummins got two wickets, while one wicket each was taken by Mohammad Shami, Adam Zampa, and Harshal Patel.
Thakur was named POTM for his top show with the ball. With this win, LSG have secured their first win of the season.
