In the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 100 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

RR won the toss and chose to bowl first, but MI made them rue their decision quickly. Openers Rohit Sharma (51) and Ryan Rickelton (61) lay the groundwork, both scoring smooth fifties. Though MI only scored 58 runs in the powerplay, the duo’s controlled yet aggressive combination flourished, scoring 116 runs for the first wicket. Sharma delivered a superb innings with nine boundaries, whilst Rickelton was more aggressive, hitting seven fours and three sixes. Both openers dropped in rapid succession, but the pace never slowed. Suryakumar Yadav (48) and skipper Hardik Pandya (48) dominated the death overs with a stunning exhibition of power hitting. SKY’s innings featured four boundaries and three sixes, while Pandya hit six fours and one six. Interestingly, both batted with an explosive strike rate of 208.7. Their undefeated 94-run partnership, 71 of which came in the final five overs, propelled Mumbai to a dominant total of 217/2 after 20 overs.
The Royals’ batting effort was a long cry from their overpowering performance against the Gujarat Titans (GT). The chase started on a poor note, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi falling for a duck. Though Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), Nitish Rana (9), Riyan Parag (16), and Shubham Dubey (15) showed some potential, none could anchor their innings or form a significant partnership. The collapse continued, with wickets falling at regular intervals, and the chase never really took heading. Jofra Archer (30) offered a late spark, clearing the ropes several times, but the match had already slipped well beyond RR’s grasp. The Royals collapsed for just 117 in 16.1 overs.
While the powerplay is meant to favour the batters, it was MI bowlers who made the most out of it as they put half the RR side to bed. Overall, Trent Boult and Karn Sharma grabbed three wickets each, and with them, Jasprit Bumrah also grabbed two wickets. One wicket each was taken by Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya.
For RR with the ball, Riyan Parag and Maheesh Theekshana grabbed one wicket each.
With this win, MI are now at the top of the table with 14 points and a significant lead in the NRR.
