The Sawai Mansingh Stadium erupted in a frenzy tonight as Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a commanding performance, dismantling Gujarat Titans (GT) by eight wickets in a high-octane encounter that shattered several Indian Premier League (IPL) records.
Opting to field after winning the toss, the Royals showcased exceptional discipline with the ball before their young batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, unleashed an innings for the ages to secure a memorable victory with 25 balls to spare.
Despite a strong start from Titans’ reliable opening pair, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, who constructed a solid 92-run partnership in the initial ten overs, the Royals’ bowlers maintained their composure. Maheesh Theekshana drew first blood, breaking the stand by dismissing Sudharsan for a well-fought 39 off 30 deliveries.
Gill then found an able partner in Jos Buttler, and the duo continued to accumulate runs, adding another crucial 70 to the scoreboard. Buttler looked particularly threatening. However, just as the Titans appeared poised to accelerate further, Theekshana once again proved to be the game-changer, removing the well-set Gill for an impressive 84 off 50 balls. A blistering, unbeaten cameo of 50 off just 26 balls from Buttler propelled GT to a formidable total of 209/4.
Chasing a daunting target, the Royals responded with an electrifying display of power hitting. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and the sensational Vaibhav Suryavanshi ignited the Jaipur crowd with an audacious assault from the very first over. They raced to a blistering 50 in just 3.5 overs, equaling the Royals’ own record for the fastest team fifty at their home ground.
The young Suryavanshi was the architect of this early onslaught, reaching his maiden IPL half-century in a breathtaking 17 balls. This remarkable feat etched his name in IPL history as the fastest of the 2025 season, the second-fastest ever for Rajasthan Royals, the fastest ever against Gujarat Titans, and, incredibly, made him the youngest player to achieve this milestone in the league’s history.
The onslaught continued unabated as the Royals reached their team’s hundred in a mere 7.4 overs, matching their own record set against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023. Suryavanshi’s brutal assault reached its zenith in an unforgettable over against Karim Janat, where he plundered 30 runs, making it the most expensive first over ever bowled in the IPL.
The teenage sensation then etched his name into the record books once more, becoming the youngest ever to score an IPL century at the astonishing age of just 14 years and 32 days. His hundred came off a mere 35 deliveries, making it the second-fastest century ever recorded in the tournament’s illustrious history.
The dynamic opening duo forged a magnificent 166-run partnership, the highest for any wicket in the Royals’ IPL history. Prasidh Krishna finally broke the dangerous stand, dismissing Suryavanshi for a breathtaking 101. Rashid Khan struck in the very next over, removing Nitish Rana, but the damage inflicted by the young opener had already tilted the game decisively in the Royals’ favour.
Jaiswal remained unbeaten, anchoring the innings with a composed 64 off 37 balls, while Riyan Parag provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 25 off 13 deliveries, ensuring a comfortable eight-wicket victory for the Rajasthan Royals with a significant 25 balls to spare.
Unsurprisingly, the Man of the Match award was deservingly bestowed upon the young phenom, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, for his extraordinary and record-shattering performance. His sensational innings included a staggering 11 sixes, equaling the record for the most sixes struck by an Indian batter in a single IPL innings.
Tonight, Jaipur witnessed not just a victory, but the arrival of a potential superstar in the making.
